A plug for a great project that I’ve been working on recently with Museum Development South West.

Hazards in Collections: Reducing the Risk was an innovative, collaborative project
reaching across the whole of the SW region. Grounded in core museum practice – helping
museums better look after the items in their care – it provided practical support, tools,
training and grants to help museums better identify, manage and make safe hazards in
their collections.

The project was made possible by the generous support of grants from National Lottery Heritage Fund and Art Fund.

These include a handbook, templates, a video and case studies from some of the museums who took part in the project.

So, if you are a museum worried about what to do with items in your collection that might contain nasties such as asbestos, mould, radioactive material and more, this is a great place to start.
