Spring awakenings

It only feels like 5 minutes ago that I was getting excited about Christmas events at museums, and now here I am trailing Spring re-openings.

Many of the museums I work with operate on seasonal hours – the winter being a great time to catch up on essential behind the scenes work. Spring and Easter tend to be the time that the doors are opened again and visitors welcomed for another season. This means Feb/March can be a very hectic time, getting everything shipshape and in order, often with new or refreshed displays.

Here is my round up of Spring activity for some of those that I am working with at the moment:

Arundells in Salisbury reopens on 14th March

Chard Museum reopens on 30th March and has a really varied range of walks and workshops coming up

Coates English Willow on the Somerset Levels have a Birds Sculpture Trail until 27th April

Market Lavington Museum doesn’t reopen until May, but in the meantime hosts an amazing online archive of daily! blog posts about the collections and associated stories that has been running since 2010. An impressive feat for a tiny museum run by a small, dedicated team of volunteers

Guided tours of the Merchants House, Marlborough can be booked from 21st March

Pewsey Heritage Centre reopens on 25th March

The Royal Artillery Museum on Salisbury Plain is hosting a bookable open day on 30th March. With a fully fledged museum still pending, these open days are a great and rare opportunity to view some of their collections

Good luck to everyone as you put the finishing touches to the 2024 offer.
